Throughout the election there was much hoopla within the Jewish community about Barack Obama's position on Israel and, more generally, issues pertaining to Jewish Americans. I did my own research on the subject and ultimately ignored the anti-Obama propaganda thrown at the Jewish community.
Hopefully, Obama's appointment of Rahm Emmanuel as Chief of Staff will finally shut people up. Emmanuel belongs to a Modern Orthodox synagogue, his kids attend Jewish day school, and he volunteered in Israel during the Gulf War. That is not a man who will serve a President who threatens his people and his father's homeland. *bangs gavel*
On a related topic, in a conversation with my step-father about hateful ballot measures, I learned that my friend's parents recently left our synagogue because the Rabbi made anti-gay statements from the pulpit, wouldn't retract them, and the congregation leadership refused to hold a round table discussion on homosexuality and Judaism. I make an annual donation to this synagogue in my father's name which means I need to research this further myself. If the information is accurate, the synagogue will get a letter from me explaining why I'm taking that donation elsewhere. It's bad enough for the rabbi to preach intolerance from the pulpit. It's even worse if the congregation leadership is indifferent to the issue.
In other, more exiting news, tonight is a new CSI and Lady Heather! \o/ I am very easy to please. A little Grissom/Lady Heather is all I need.
