I can not stop watching news reports on the sale of the US ports to the UAE held company. The talking heads are going full force and the media is clearly, clearly mocking anyone who says this is a good idea.
Case in point:
"Let's not treat them [the UAE] unfairly." – Amb. Rob Portman, US Trade Representative
"Far be it from me to want to treat anyone unfairly." - Lou Dobbs
You have one person saying that the security of the ports is still firmly on the hands of the US government followed by a counter point reminding us that the US government has terrorist warnings in place for US travelers to the UAE. Then, there's this: Bush Unaware of Ports Deal Before Approval.
From Maureen Dowd's NYT OpEd piece: Our ports are already nearly naked in terms of security. Only about 5 percent of the containers coming into the country are checked. And when the White House assures us that the Homeland Security Department will oversee security at the ports, is that supposed to make us sleep better? Not after the chuckleheaded Chertoff-and-Brownie show on Capitol Hill.
Here. Have some more:
( Maureen Dowd's NYT OpEd piece...G.O.P. to W.: You're Nuts! )
Think she has a strong opinion?
Short story, regardless of who ultimately controls the security of the ports, no one has convinced me this makes sense.
Unrelated but stumbled upon as I devoured news articles:
The frightening: South Dakota Senate passes abortion ban bill
The absurd: 'Brokeback' shirts go for $100,000 $100,000!!!
I really need some brain candy.
